A couple of months ago, I penned a blog on how local politician Joseph Mastrianni was caught on video taking his opponent’s campaign mail out of constituents’ mailboxes while he was on a door-to-door canvas for votes.
You know … this blog.
And surprisingly, Joseph Mastroianni continued his defiance even after the video footage went viral.
Now, in the parlance of schadenfreude, Joseph Mastroianni has finished his “fucked around” phase of his actions.
Now he’s in the “find out” phase.
This news report from WRGB notes that Mastroianni is scheduled for arraignment on January 6 in Schenectady County Court on charges of postal theft. There’s are more detailed report from the Daily Gazette at this link.
Right now, the charges against Mastroianni are at the misdemeanor level, and can carry a term of one year in jail. If this escalates to a federal crime, Mastroianni could sit behind bars for a maximum of five years.
Yeah. Not a good move for a politician to get caught stealing his opponent’s campaign flyers.
But I guess that’s par for the course when politicians try to win by any means necessary.
And, honestly, it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving clown.
I’d expect this action, and REaction, from maybe a mischievous and now-in-denial 10 year-old.
A 10 year-old would likely receive punishment that “fit the crime.” Some embarrassing lesson meant to stick with him for the rest of his life, and effectively deter him from ever trying it again.
For this guy, I’m sensing a reduction to something like “first degree attempted parking on the sidewalk” – via contributions to his lawyer’s kid’s college tuition fund –> five days of community service.
And his life lesson? Water does indeed roll off a duck’s back.
But we can hope…
