“Hey, I’m a scam-bot // and this is crazy // So give me money // and call me maybe?”

Carly Ray Jepsen will never speak to me after that blog headline. Ha.

So anyways …

The tax scammers and thieves are crawling out from under their rocks and holes with one goal in their diseased minds. They want to take your tax refund money from you in any way possible. Or, they’ll promise to find you a refund, charge you for their “effort,” and then disappear back into their holes and under their rocks.

Here’s how this works. These scammers and thieves have tried cold calls and recordings, claiming to be from the IRS or from some third-party company – some organization that will either mitigate how much money you owe the IRS, or will fight to get your share of money back. Yeah, as long as you pay them up front for the efforts – or give these weasels your bank account and Social Security number, and just let them take all your money for themselves.

And with new technology, these bonkbrains are becoming more devious in their sinister actions.

For some reason, I’ve been plagued with scam calls and robo-calls for the past few weeks. Mind you, I’ve already filed and received my tax refunds from both the federal and state income tax bureaus (had to do it quickly so that the Orange Goblin and Felon Musk didn’t get their fat fingers on my finances). So these calls would just bounce off my spam-blocking phone system.

But once in a while, these spambots get through. Of course, with the Caller ID on my phone, I already know that the scammers are calling from unrecognized or spoofed numbers, so I just let the call go to voicemail. I’m sure that whoever leaves a message will have an accent of some sort.

Well, wait until you hear this one. Apparently the scammers are now using AI-generated voice software that makes the caller sound – shall we say – more “convincing” and less “international.” Yeah.

Take a listen to this. I’ve transcribed it here, but listen to the phrasing and tonal pace of the phone message.

“Hey there, I hope your day is going well. My name is Morgan Welk and I’m calling you from the Underwriting Department at Direct Tax Resolutions, LLC. Go ahead and give me a call back at 866-319-5267. It’s regarding your back income tax debt or your missed filing. So I’ve got some great news for you about some new programs that have recently taken effect for 2025. So it’s imperative I speak to you just as soon as possible. I am here today until 6 p.m. With a new change in leadership, relief programs may not continue, please call as soon as possible. So again, my phone number is 866-319-5267. I’m looking forward to hearing back from you before the filing deadline. I’m here till 6 p.m. today. Have a great day and if you’d like to opt out of future calls, please just call back the caller ID on your cell phone.”

Excuse me while I put on my rumpled raincoat before I analyze this mess of a message.

So, Ms. Welk … if that is your real name … so are you calling me about my back income tax debt, or my missed filing? One or the other. Also, you’re calling from Direct Tax Resolutions, LLC, which for some reason does NOT come up as part of a Google search for your company. Very interesting. Oh, and if you want me to opt out of future calls, I need to call you from the spoofed number you left on my caller ID, as opposed to the number you repeated over and over again on your phone message?

(turns to leave)

Oh, and … just one more thing. Why do you sound like you were created from the same $5-per-month online voice generating audio type-and-speak software I used for about a year as my artificially intelligent, computer-generated co-host WrHCL when I hosted my Nightowl Radio Show from 2023 to 2024 on WHCL? I mean, the spacing, the phrasing, the inability to actually HEAR YOU TAKE A BREATH BETWEEN SENTENCES …

Yep. Just another scammer, trying – and failing – to take my money. Go kick rocks.

And now that I’ve caught this scammer – I’ve shared their specious techniques with all of you. So that you are also prepared against these slimeballs.

You’re welcome. 😀
