The NY Phoenix draw first blood in the Route 5 Rivalry, beating Albany 129-113

What a contest.

With a capacity crowd of 1400 jammed into Armory Studios NY, the New York Phoenix took the first victory in the Route 5 Rivalry, as three members of the Schenectady crew – Shadell Millinghaus, AJ Mosby and Paul Parks – scored 20+ points in a 129-113 win over the Albany Patroons. The victory moves the Phoenix to an unbeaten 3-0 in the TBL standings, while Albany falls to 3-1.

Mosby and Juan Williams notched double-doubles in the win – Mosby with 24 points and 11 assists, while Williams garnered 17 points and 13 rebounds. Millinghaus led the Phoenix with 27 points, while Parks’ 24 points were gifts from beyond the arc; he went 6-13 from 3-point range.

As for Albany, who were without their big men Amir Yusuf and Josh Morris, they did fight back a few times, and at one point even had a 67-66 lead. But costly turnovers and missed free throws stung the Patroons; going 14-24 from the free throw line won’t help matters.

As for scoring; Trahson Burrell did everything he could, scoring a game-high 38 points on 15-for-26 field goal action; Burrell also had nine rebounds in 42 minutes of play. Ja’Quaye James had a double-double of 18 points and 11 assists; while Mike Parks (no relation to the Phoenix’ Paul Parks) pulled down 13 boards against 10 points for his own double-double.This is

This was the first of four head-to-head matchups between the Phoenix and the Patroons; both teams will return to Armory Studios NY on April 4. This was Albany’s only game this week; while the Phoenix fly to Connecticut for a Sunday contest with the Crusaders and the chance to move to 4-0 on the young season.

Let’s keep this going.
