For Right Choice Shearing, Shearing is Caring

I came across this YouTube channel a few days ago, and man I’m hooked. Watching Katie and Darian, the proprietors of a Texas-based animal shearing operation, it like a mental soothing against all the craziness in the world today.

In fact, rather than have me explain their channel, I’m going to show you their intro page.

On their Right Choice Shearing page, Katie and Darian explain the basics and need for shearing llamas, alpacas, sheep and other farm animals. They travel across the entire Midwest with their tools (and as much Dr. Pepper as they can drink), and you can watch them take care of everything from routine shearing to animals in dire need of a massive haircut.

And I can tell you this. If you’re thinking of getting into the sheep-shearing trade, be warned. It is not an easy trade. In this video, Katie explains the dangers of sheep-shearing, including nicking an animal – or, even worse, nicking the shearer.

Then again, there’s also the fun of (yes, this is true) competitive sheep shearing. That’s right, Right Choice Shearing actually competed in a sheep shearing event at the Iowa State Fair. Wanna see how they did? Yes you do!

I’m telling you. You watch one video clip, you’re like, “Oh, that’s nice.” Five video clips in, you’re shouting, “Hey, make sure you keep that belly wool away from the rest of the useable wool!”

All I’m really saying here is … after watching all the craziness in the world today … these sheep-shearing videos from Katie and Darian are a blessed relief and respite. Trust me on this. No, seriously. TRUST ME ON THIS.
