Albany Patroons, NY Phoenix players earn All-Star Game honors!

Let’s call it as it is. The Patroons and the Phoenix are two of the top teams in the TBL basketball league, to the point where teams would rather fold up and cease operations instead of traveling to the 518.

And now, the Phoenix and the Patroons will each send a representative to next week’s TBL All-Star Game in Frederik, Maryland. This year’s TBL all-star contest, in addition to the usual 3-point shooting championship and slam dunk competition, will feature a TBL all-star squad facing up against the home team, the Frederick Flying Cows.

So who will represent the Capital District next week?

For the New York Phoenix, their champion frontman Shadell Millinghaus will represent the black and fire. He’s already won TBL Player of the Week honors earlier this season, and he’s averaging 23 points in nine Phoenix matches. That’s strong.

Meanwhile, the Albany Patroons are providing their double-doublje machine, Trahson Burrell, to the All-Star Weekend. 22.8 points per game to lead the gold and kelly green.

Oh, and the Patroons are sending one more person to the All-Star Game – head coach Derrick Rowland.

Coach Rowland, who recently earned his 100th Patroons head coaching victory (only the second coach to earn 100 Patroons triumphs, just behind Phil Jackson), will coach the All-Star team against the Frederick Flying Cows. And this goes 42 years after when Rowland, then a rookie with the Albany Patroons, was part of the Patroons squad that defeated the CBA All-Stars in the Armory. How incredible is that?

The TBL All-Star Weekend will take place in Frederick, Maryland over Easter weekend.
