Back in television’s early years, there was The $64,000 Question, where contestants were asked tremendously difficult questions in their expert categories. The most notable champion from this program was psychologist Dr. Joyce Brothers, who eventually won $64,000 for her knowledge of the history of boxing and prizefighting.
That being said, there’s currently an Australian version of The $64,000 Question, where contestants are asked about their expert subjects – and at the same time, are getting clowned by the host.
This is Hard Quiz.
Host Tom Gleeson will ask four contestants questions about their specific expertise, then he’ll test them by asking questions in HIS random chosen subject. Eventually four contestants are whittled down to two … who battle against each other in a one-on-one quiz format until a champion is declared.
The show is played for laughs, but it also is quite competitive. Like in this episode, which plays into the UK / Australian cricket “Ashes” rivalry.
And I have to say … the show is funny. Tom will roast the panelists on their knowledge (or lack thereof) of their expert subjects, and sometimes the contestants will give it right back to Tom in spades.
And sometimes, if you have contestants on the show who essentially crash and burn in spectacular fashion … the show will bring them back in a special “Battle of the Duds” episode.
And I’m thinking to myself … HOW THE HELL DO I GET ON THIS PROGRAM?
I could have fun with this. I’m already imagining my expert subject…
And the announcer goes …
CHUCK. NEW YORK. EXPERT SUBJECT … BLOGGING FOR NEARLY TWO DECADES WITHOUT TAKING A SINGLE DAY OFF.
Ha!
It is a fantastic show, so witty and a walk down memory lane. I was disappointed to see it is currently offline at the moment, and the fill in is Meh, not worth watching! Go Hard!
