I didn’t have to be a fan of Stephen Colbert to know that last week’s news about his last night TV show was about as suspect as a game of three-card monte. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is one of the top programs on late night television, yet last week CBS announced the show would not be renewed after Colbert’s contract ended in May 2026.
I sense an orange goblin was involved in this. Especially after that goblin boasted on his personal social media site that Colbert was cancelled, and that he heard that Jimmy Kimmel’s show might be next.
Well, that didn’t stop Colbert from acknowledging the situation surrounding the show … and how best to address it.
And who best to help Colbert out with this little situation … than two of the most celebrated, multi-talented musicians / songwriters of our generation.
Ladies and gentlemen … Lin-Manuel Miranda and “Weird Al” Yankovic. Complete with the current social media meme of a certain British band, some spotlights in the crowd, and more than a few salvos at a certain president and a certain multinational media company?
Nah, why should I spoil this. Just watch the clip already.
Look no further than the cost of his show and the balance sheet.
I’m waiting to hear that he’s offered to take a pay cut, in a selfless attempt to help save the show and all the behind-the-scenes jobs he’s responsible for erasing. Yeah, when pigs fly.
Carson was spot-on all those years, opting to keep partisan political garbage out of it. His magic formula? Entertainment!!
