This yar, the Eastern States Exposition’s photography competition set up a new format for entries. Instead of submitting two entries in September and hoping they would get accepted, I could send multiple entries in July – and then hear from the judges in August if any (or all) (or none) were accepted for show. It doesn’t mean that they will receive ribbons; it just means they were accepted (or not accepted) and can be shown.
With that in mind, I went with six images and prayed for the best.
On Friday, I received word. THREE of my six images were accepted for show. The accepted entries are …

Well, well, wellty well. What have we here?
Let’s look over the parameters.
- “Soaring on a Manhattan Morning” gets its first acceptance, and becomes my first-ever Big E acceptance of a picture taken in (or at) New York City.
- “Carissima in Infrared” becomes my first-ever Hamilton College photo capture to land in Springfield, it’s my third-ever infrared image to make the walls of the New England Center, and my first digital infrared image to achieve any success in Springfield.
- “Arrival in Sherbrooke” becomes my fourth railroad-themed photo and first-ever Canadian Pacific / CPKC Holiday Train image to land on the walls of ANY competition.
Now I’m still waiting for some official news on my latched hook sunflower piece, so I could see FOUR entries into the Big E this year – three photos and one craft. But I won’t hear about that result for at least another week or two.
But still … this is collectively good news. Maybe the 0-for-4 at Iowa this year was an aberration rather than the norm.
Let’s just see how things turn out in Springfield. 😀
