My Altamont Fair photography entries, 2025 edition

I first entered the Altamont Fair’s photography competition way back in 2009. That was definitely ancient times.

Every year after that, I brought what I considered as my best photographic works of the year. Sometimes I would win some ribbons and prizes; sometimes I went home sad and winless.

And this year, I’ve returned with four more photos. Four more chances for a win of some sort.

Now my rule with blogging about the Altamont Fair’s photography competition is that I am not allowed to post my submissions until after judging is complete. Judging ended last night, and as far as I know, the winning entries now have ribbons next to them. I won’t know which of mine (if any) claimed silk until I actually go there tonight, and if you happen to attend and see any of my works with some pretty ribbons, don’t tell me yet.

But if you are going to Altamont this week, keep an eye out for these four photos.

There’s Neck and Neck and Neck. Admittedly, it hasn’t had much success this year – it was the only one of six submissions to the New York State Fair that was not accepted; and it was also not accepted at the Big E’s photo competition. So we’ll give this one more try.

It’s in the black and white display category, along with …

That’s 90 Minutes of Moonlight. My “moon trail” shot in downtown Albany. You know … this could find a new home later this year if I consider it for Historic Albany Foundation’s BUILT charitable show.

I also submitted two color images, those were:

That’s Arriving in Sherbrooke, or Arrival for Christmas, I’ve bounced between two names for this artwork. I should note that there is NOT a picket fence in the photo; that’s a reflection off the glass.

And my fourth entry for consideration is …

Yep, Soaring on a Manhattan Morning. Like my Holiday Train photo, this was accepted at the New York State Fair and at the Big E, although I have no idea if it received any silks or love at those shows yet. Let’s see how this image does here, shall we?

Again … The Altamont Fair opens this morning, and runs through Sunday night. My artworks – along with 400 other entries in the Fine Arts categories (!!) are on display at the Fine Arts Barn on the Fairgrounds. There’s a lot of tremendously fantastic artwork here. You should see. You won’t be disappointed.

Fingers crossed. Let’s see how everything turns out.
