Gold and Blue

So I’m still experimenting with my Pentacon Six TL camera and my multitude of five interchangeable lenses. And since there was still fall foliage about in the neighborhood, I wanted to try something.

I placed my Zodiak 180-degree fisheye lens on the Pentacon, loaded the camera with some Kodak Portra 400 film, and wanted to try a shot that captured as much fall foliage as possible. And by “as much fall foliage as possible,” I leaned against one of the trees, aimed the camera up towards the sky, and tried to shoot the branches and clouds simultaneously.

And after some post-processing adjustments, I pulled this image out of the mix.

So … this is a promising start. Let me explain.

The Zodiak lens, wen pointed upward, captures a ton of branches and foliage. It also brings out some serious vignetting in the skies, as you can definitely see a more prominent shift from light blue to dark blue.

And you know what? This can inspire me to build on this concept. It might involve some more adjustments and alignments in the future … but I’ve got this Zodiak lens for a reason, and I certainly plan on using it for something creative and stunning in the future.

It might not be this image … but it will build from this image, to be sure.

And I’m totally fine with that.
