The Latch Hook Covered Bridge project as of November 10, 2025

I don’t know about you … but I feel like I’m moving faster and faster on this project. I sit down after dinner, grab the canvas, and start hooking. I take a Saturday morning, go run my morning errands, come back home, and start hooking.

I mean, this was where I was last week at this time.

And here’s where I left off last week.

And by this time Sunday morning … the covered bridge structure was almost finished. I mean … this is one week of progress here, folks.

I’m in the home stretch, folks. I can see the finish line from here. All I need to do is finish the bridge roof, some of the remaining foliage, some of the sky, bind it up, and I’m good to go. Yes yes yes.

Hmm … checking my stash of colored yarns.

I seem to be short a pack of dark red.

Uh-oh.

When I started this project last year, I ordered all my colored yarns ahead of time. One big box of sliced yarn strands, of all necessary colors. Each color came in 320-yarn bag counts, so if I needed 3,000 shades of moss green, I would order ten bags, allowing for extra yarns due to off-cuts or whatnot.

But now I seem to be short of a key color. Without dark red, I can’t finish the roof.

Ugh. Now I have to order some dark red.

No matter. I’ll order a bag of dark red, and while it arrives, I’ll work on other portions of the rug. Possibly finish off that side tree. Let me get some of that delicious moss green, and …

Oh, that’s not good. I’m depleted of my moss green content.

Double ugh.

And after careful inventory of what I have left, and what I need to finish this project … I’m also short of medium gold for the sky. Effectively … I’m on a shutdown until I can order more yarns.

And I know what that means.

Place an order to Herrschner’s. Wait as it gets packaged and shipped out at their usual delivery speed (slow as snails). Factor in at least two separate holidays (Veterans’ Day and Thanksgiving), AND the current slowdown in air travel and shipping …

Triple ugh. This tastes worse than asparagus-flavored ice cream.

Well .. at the moment, I’m now on a work stoppage on the rug.

I guess it’s just one of those things. You prepare for every possible obstacle …

But that one obstacle you didn’t previously notice just jumps out and whacks you in the cojones.
