Albany Center Gallery hosted their 2025 Members’ Show, with an opening night gala last Friday evening. It wasn’t just an opening night for the gallery; it was also an opening night for their new home location at 48 North Pearl Street, in the former Schatz Stationery building.
What does this mean for ACG?
Larger space. Larger space to host more art shows and larger collections. Dedicated office space for the gallery staff. And a more visible footprint in Albany’s downtown.
Trust me. The place was packed elbow-to-elbow when I arrived.

I am allowed only one entry for the show; and for me, it either has to be an artwork that won lots of accolades in the previous Competition Season; or one that I want to showcase in a future Competition Season.
For me, that meant my lenticular shot of The Shooting Star.
And after wiggling my way around everybody and trying to find it … I found it.
Looky here.

And I can definitely assure you … people saw the artwork, and as they stared at it, they were doing the “lenticular shimmy.” You know, the little rock from right to left to see the meteor streak across the sky – that “lenticular shimmy.”

There were several ceremonies during the event; the Gallery hosted a “ribbon-cutting” with the newly-elected Albany mayor Dorcey Applyrs; and then the Gallery announced meritorious awards for the members’ show entrants.
These are the things that make me smile. Art that’s appreciated and showcased in a beautiful new space. A previously vacant Albany building now transformed into a breathtaking downtown art center.
All of this is a major win.
And the response to The Shooting Star makes me more confident in entering it in as many shows as I possibly can.
I am not joking.
I want this artwork to get plenty of shine.
And the Albany Center Gallery Members Show was its first glimmer.
A sign of good things to come …
