The Adventures of Ganef the Squirrel

Ganef the squirrel lived in a tree. The tree was situated near an office park.

One day, Ganef scurried along the frozen ground, as he looked for snacks and treats. He already packed plenty of provisions to help him through the winter, now it was time to find whatever morsels some employee left behind.

And then he saw it.

A suet cake. All full of tasty seeds and nuts.

Ganef knew the suet cake was for the birdies, not for him.

But Ganef didn’t care. Ganef wanted that suet cake and he wanted it badly.

The suet cake’s tied to the tree. No worries, Ganef thought. Humans are so dumb. They tie a suet cake with a piece of string. I can bite through that string and the suet cake will fall to the ground. Then let the birdies try to take it from me.

Scurry, scurry, scurry. A few chews on the string … and the suet cake fell to the ground with a plop.

Success, Ganef thought. Let those birds go find their own suet cakes. This one is mine, mine, mine.

He climbed down from the tree, his clawed paws sinking into the soft bark.

There it was – the suet cake – right in front of the office window.

Ganef looked around. No humans or birds in sight.

Snack time for Ganef.

And as he chewed on the tasty treasure …

He had no idea that someone in the office park saw him.

Someone with a camera.

Someone who liked taking pictures.

Ganef didn’t care about whatever was in the window.

Right now, his mind was focused on chowing down.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the window …

The person who took a phone photo of Ganef checked his phone.

And as he examined the image, he thought to himself …

“This would make a great latch hook rug.”

And so it begins …
