Someday, if the planets align perfectly, I’ll have one of my artworks hanging in a gallery in New York City. That would be an amazing personal accomplishment.
Then reality sets in. And so does disappointment.
At one point in time, I was happy when one of my artworks made it to the walls of an online gallery event. But then the numerous rejections overruled the few acceptances, so I stopped submitting for a time.
Now it’s time to try again.
And this Call For Art came up in my feed.
Square Art Gallery in New York City is hosting a Call for Art for black and white images. I get three submissions for one entry fee, additional payment for extra entries.
Figured I’d just dip my toes in for the first submission, and went through my archives for three strong B&W images from my catalog.
And I think I found the three.

There are my entries. Two classics – the Milky Way meets covered bridge shot Washington County, 2:30 a.m., the infrared ice cream parlor house of horrors We Serve Wayward Strangers, and my new-to-me this year entry Herbie Jr. 🙂 Was Here.
I should hear by mid-May if any of these three images were accepted.
Am I expecting miracles? Well, miracles do happen every day. But a miracle is one thing; reality is another. All I can do is submit these entries and hope for the best.
I mean … what’s the worst hat can happen? Rejections? Hell, I’m used to rejections. Any guy who got the “I’m breaking up with you” on Christmas Day can handle rejections.
So let’s see how things pan out.
Maybe I’ll get lucky in the end.
We shall see.
FWIW, Washington County is sitting on the wall directly behind me.
Good luck

You got this, Chuck. Sounds like your head’s in the right place. (And my $$’s on “We Serve Wayward Strangers.”)
Take this to heart – and absolutely “No brag, just fact” … a la Walter Brennan:
Let’s go back to the late 60s, the good old days of radio contests. WTRY ran a month-long “Mystery Sound Fun Test,” and the prize was a new 1968 Chevy Nova.
“Simple:” Just listen 24 hours a day during November, ’67 for brief snips that they aired of countless common, around-the-house sounds. Had to note the day, date and time you heard each of the sounds broadcast. And whoever submitted the greatest number of correct guesses would win.
I figured I’d have the proverbial “snowball’s chance…” But what the hey? I could do this. What’s to lose, beyond a month out of my life that I’ll never get back?
And that was my very first car, off the showroom floor of Dick Smith’s Livermore Chevrolet.
There’s a lot to be said for “The Power of Positive Thinking.” Go get ’em!
