Does Kylie Minogue know the plural of Coca-Cola?

Okay, follow me here. Kylie Minogue is an incredible singer and actress, and she’s drop-dead gorgeous. And at one point in time, she did a commercial for Coca-Cola.

In fact, here’s the commercial. Minogue places an order for some pizza and soda, and a delivery driver scurries through a hotel to bring the food order to her.

Here’s the original commercial. But listen to how she orders the food.

Yeah. As she’s adjusting the spaghetti strap on her little black dress, she tells the delivery person to add “a couple of Coke.” Not Cokes. Not Coca-Colas. Not a couple of cans of Coke.

No, she clearly said a couple of Coke. As in the plural of Coke, to her, is Coke.

Um … er …

And sure enough, when the food is delivered, the delivery person repeats the order of a couple of Coke. Okay, maybe he’s just completely mesmerized by seeing Australia’s Taylor Swift up close and personal … but … um … huh?

Trust me, this was a big discussion when this commercial aired way back in the day. Like, are we supposed to that “Coke” is both singular and plural, like “sheep”?

Or is this an Australian thing, where people order one thing and you automatically know they ordered four things? Got me.

But still … I mean … it’s a fun little commercial in and of itself.

Just ask Kylie Minogue. Or her sibling Danni Minogue.

So is that a pair of Minogue?

Help a brother out here. 😀
