Yes, I’m still nicely progressing on this latch hook rug project. And I still have faith that I can complete it in time for Competition Season 2026.
At right is what the rug is SUPPOSED to look like when finished. Or at least that’s what the directions say it should look like.
But remember … I’m working off different yarn colors that don’t match up with the 50-year-old instructions.
So what attracts me to these latch hooked rug concepts?
I would say it was several years ago when I discovered that one could upload a photograph to a website – and the website would spit out a fully realized pattern based on the photograph. Over the years, I’ve constructed various latched hook rugs based on those program directions – some of them did well at Competition Season, some of them found new homes via charity auctions, others are still in the concept phase.
For me, it’s just another way to express my creativity. And I’m happy with that. In fact, once I finish this pattern, I’ve got a rug planned for Competition Season 2027. No, I’m not posting the details now. I’m saving this one for cold wintertime activities. You know … stay inside where it’s warm, hook for a few hours, binge-watch some television series that passed my attention the first time around …
Great. Now I’m thinking about what TV shows could fit that bill. I never sat through The Sopranos or The Wire, I could binge-watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel or The Handmaid’s Tale, but never got around to it. I could watch The Walking Dead, but I’m still kinda confused that if they’re dead, how are they walking?
Or I could go “old school” and watch some classic 60’s / 70’s dramas. During one rug-making session, I binge-watched episodes of McCloud and Columbo. That was kind of fun. Some of the episodes even came with that NBC Mystery Movie opening credits scene.
There’s a bunch of TV shows from my past that I would like to re-watch, but unfortunately they’re not available on most streaming services. Remember McCloud and Columbo? Apparently there was a third TV series in that anthology pack, McMillan and Wife, but no streaming service has it. I also remember an anthology series called The Name of the Game, but that’s not on any platforms, either.
I suppose if I punch through the Tubi service, I’ll find something … oh, wait, they’re showing The Apprentice?? NO NO NO NO NO NO NO EWW EWW NO NO NO
Anyways …
As of last week, I was at this point in the latch hook rug completion.

And as of this morning …
I’m up to here.

I’m approximately 3,500 pulls away from completion. The yellow “sun” section is complete; now I just have to wrap all the concomitant colors around that sun pattern … then I can add adhesives to the back to lock the strands in place … and then I can add fringe.
This rug is really coming along. It might actually get completed in time. Woo hoo.
Let’s keep going on this. And I’ll also take decent suggestions for TV binge-watching shows to air in the background while I work on the next one.

You should win an award just for using the word “concomitant.”
