Time to get excited for the holiday season. And for me, that means keeping an eye out for several “Holiday Train” runs throughout the area.
And while I wait for the CPKC Holiday Train to make its 2026 excursion, I’m happy to report that the Saratoga, Corinth & Hudson Railroad will make its own holiday excursion as part of the nationwide “Operation Toy Train” run.

Operation Toy Train will launch in Saratoga at the LaMothe Landing in Greenfield Center on Sunday, November 14, with holiday cheer and music and fun. Then the train travels from Greenfield Center to the Corinth train station for more music and fun, and then it makes a rare crossing over the Sacandaga River into Hadley for its third concert and show.
Each show is free, and all are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys and games to the donation bins to enjoy the event.
Personally, I’ve photographed and followed this event before, and it’s a lot of fun. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for new railfans to capture the SC&H in various locations and shooting spots. Trust me, the Sacandaga River parking lot gets packed rather quickly with photographers and drone operators. Especially since the train will pass into Hadley at twilight that night – and fully lit up with holiday trimmings.
This should definitely be part of your holiday calendar cheer.
So let’s enjoy it together.
I’ll be there.
And I hope you’re there as well.
