I initially didn’t want to make this video. I wasn’t sure how it would be received. But after seeing the increased cyber-bullying and taunting and belittling going on today, both nationally and locally, I could remain silent no more.
And the kicker was reading this morning about Mitchell Wilson, a boy with muscular dystrophy who was beaten and bullied by one of his classmates. Fearful of returning to the same school that both he and his tormentor attended, Wilson smothered himself with a plastic bag. He was only eleven years old.
So this morning, I got up and made this video. It was based on how I felt. It was based on what I wanted to say to anyone – old, young, black, white, gay, straight, religious, non-religious, disabled, enabled – who is feeling that they can’t take it any more. Who feel that there is no hope. Who feel that there is no future.
Listen to me. You can survive this. You can make things better for yourself. You will get past this. There are people who will help. There are people who will be your support. You do not have to go through this by yourself.
It does get better. I mean it.
And if you don’t believe me… watch this video.
Chuck from someone who has been there and from someone who has been there for those who are going through it now, God Bless You for making this video ! I have posted it to my Facebook page and asked my friends to share it as well !

It was nice of you to post this message! We have all been bullied at some point. I remember being made fun of when I was younger for no reason, even when I tried to avoid those who made fun of me. I know that they did it because they had no self-esteem. I hope that many kids can use your message to their advantage.

I blogged about Casey Heynes, the person in that YouTube clip, a while back.

I forgot about that, Chuck. I hope the day comes when we don’t have to blog on this anymore.

My heart broke when I read about Mitchell today. I was diagnosed with a form of MD when I was 3. I was teased – what kid who is “different” isn’t teased by other kids? Thankfully, I had great a great family who supported me and encouraged my talents. I learned I was valuable, and had a great deal to offer to others.
Kids grow up, and it wasn’t long before I stopped being viewed as the one who was “different” and was just accepted as “me.” It does get better. Thank you for adding your voice to those of us who try to spread that message.
