BlackBerry Q10 update… I so ♥ this phone…

As you know, I’m going through a bit of a cell phone crisis.  My current BlackBerry phone is okay, it’s not a worldbeater, but it does make phone calls and I can text and approve blog comments and read Facebook and play solitaire.  And that’s really all I need my phone to do.

And as you know, I’m loyal to the BlackBerry phone brand.  Of the six or seven portable cell phones I’ve had in my life, four of them have been BlackBerry phones.

But I don’t want to lose my unlimited data package, which Verizon Wireless promised me I could keep – that is, as long as I hopscotched around their rules that were designed to trick me into signing up with another onerous, rapacious cell phone contract that would charge me beaucoups d’argent if I dialed any phone number that contained the digit 6.

Can I tell you that it’s been a royal pain in the glutes that Verizon Wireless hasn’t provided me with any sort of information regarding the upcoming release of the BlackBerry Q10 keyboard-enabled super-cell phone, the phone that I want after all this time?

Of course we ARE talking Verizon Wireless. This is the same company that wrecked any usage of the original Motorola RAZR phone by disabling the phone’s Bluetooth capabilities and locking the phone into Verizon’s proprietary VZ online store. This is the same company that promises lifetime data use and then turns around and reneges on their offer. This is the same company that says to me, “Okay Chuck, you want this cell phone so badly, and you want to keep your unlimited data usage plan, well you gotta pay full retail price for this phone. Cough up the coinage.”

Yeah, I’m coughing something up.

As I said before, I want this BlackBerry Q10 phone. This will be the phone that can do everything I need it to do. In other words, this phone will make Chuck happy.

The BlackBerry company has already released information and specs about the Q10 phone on their website. And this phone is ten levels of awesome. Check out this preview clip from BlackBerry itself.

And if you watch this video from the UK mobile phone service Vodafone, you know this phone is the big one.

Heck, even the Engadget digital blog has a nice review of the BlackBerry Q10.

Now I did some investigating, and I’m going to base the following conclusion on available data. The current BlackBerry Z10 phone – the one with the touch-screen keyboard – is $599 retail. One of my friends, Apryll Stansfield, has a Z10, and she took this picture of me at the NBL Canada All-Star Game with it.

And that’s the Z10. Nice. Imagine what the Q10 can put together.

Anyways, I’m still estimating the cost. If the Z10 is $599, then the Q10 might be around that same retail price. Add in a protective cover, maybe a carrying case and – yeah – a retro belt-attachable hip holster – and I’m figuring it’ll run at least $680.

Or, as I continue to say, almost 30 Verizon Wireless $25 gift cards. Yep, I’m still going to go that “one gift card at a time on a busy day” route.

I know I talk about this phone a lot. And you have to understand. I’m not settling for “just good enough” any more.

I want what I want.  And I won’t settle for anything less.  And neither should anyone else.
