Every so often, someone will go on some self-important gripe about selfies. How other people’s selfies are showing up on that person’s Facebook feed, and it annoys them to no end.
Don’t get me wrong. I’ve written about selfies that were taken in inappropriate locations, such as on a cadaver table. But I’m getting tired of that endless screed of self-absorbed people pontificating over whether you should take a selfie or where you should take it or what you should look like when you take it.
Personally, I believe it’s okay to take a selfie. Take as many as you want.
All I ask is that if you’re going to take a selfie … by all means, show your creative side.
That’s when I came up with an idea. A “Shadow Selfie.”
In other words… the sun is at my back, the camera is in my hand, and I’m photographing the ground. More specifically, I’m photographing the ground where my camera-toting shadow is located.
Which can give me a great shot in the snow…

Or I can get some sidewalk shots with expired sprocket-holed aerial film…

If you want to, find a way to get your feet into the picture – especially if your feet are in a stream.

Or take some expired film and show your pink selfie side. Hee.

When I take a selfie, I want to show a side of me that doesn’t involve my face. I want people to see what’s on my mind at that very moment. Stylistically. No matter what I’m dealing with, no matter what I’m trying to achieve or avoid.
Maybe it’s just an attempt to try something extra special. To never settle for “just good enough.”
And that includes selfies as well as anything else I do in my life.
I think you are a very awesome person and I am glad to be getting to know you through your blog. Be well.
