I hate missing anniversaries and milestones…

What’s wrong with me?ย  I can’t seem to remember important anniversaries and milestones.

And I missed one from three months ago and didn’t even notice until now.

It was February 15, 2015.ย  On that date, I wrote a blog post about how I had paid off the loan on my 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS, affectionately known as the “Blackbird,” with the loan completed three and a half years ahead of schedule.ย  Yeah, that was a milestone in and of itself.

But the date – February 15, 2015.

No, it wasn’t because it was the day after Valentine’s Day.

The real significance of that date – February 15, 2015 – is that by posting an article on that day, I completed my 2,000th consecutive day in providing a new blog post to the Times Union’s blog portal.

Today?ย  This would be my 2,140th day of consecutive blogging.ย  What’s that, nearly half a Ripken?

I don’t know why I didn’t remember this.ย  Maybe it’s one of those three signs of old age.ย  You know – loss of memory, I forgot the second sign, and loss of memory.

But man, 2,140 consecutive days of blogging.

There’s something very satisfying about this. It’s the thought that I could keep this consistency without missing a single day. And why would this even matter? Why would anybody care about any of this?

And in those moments, I am reminded of the words of William Kennedy.

No. I don’t equate myself to the author of Ironweed. But I do recall some wisdom he passed to me.

I was at a lecture of his many years ago. And during his lecture, he said that if you want to be a successful writer, then remember these three words.

WRITE ONE PAGE.

Because if you write one page every day, at the end of a calendar year you will have written the equivalent of a book.

Wow. Mind blown.

So with that in mind, I know that if I discipline myself and always create a new blog post each and every day, then I will have entertained you, my readers, each day without fail.

And that’s good in and of itself.

So today I’m celebrating my 2140th consecutive day as a Times Union blogger.

And next time I’ll make dang sure to remember when my 2500th day of consecutive blogging will occur.

Yeah, some time around the year 2018 or so… ๐Ÿ™‚
