BUILT is Historic Albany Foundation’s charitable auction, where the Capital Region’s top painters and sculptors and photographers and artisans create breathtaking artwork with an Albany-based theme.
I’ve participated in BUILT for several years, and some of my most iconic pieces – including The AGFA Bridge Over Ansco Lake, The Beat of Officer Harris and a couple of Dream Windows – have found new homes with new buyers, with the money going to help Historic Albany Foundation preserve our architecture.
This year, as I looked toward submitting my pieces for BUILT, I came up with three artworks that should entice potential buyers. This is cool. And this is also the first time in which my three BUILT entries are exclusive to this show; they’re not images that were shown in previous events.
A couple of days ago, I received word that my artworks have been accepted into BUILT (super-excited me), so if you get a chance and you’re able to attend BUILT this year (November 7, at the Empire State Plaza Museum), you can see a ton of amazing artists and fantastic works.
Oh yeah, and these three pieces.
The three entries I submitted include:
NIPPER’S FLIPSIDE

I blogged about creating this picture here. In doing so, I was able to capture the iconic RCA Victor “His Master’s Voice” advertising statue in a way that hadn’t been previously achieved. And for that, I’m very happy.
FREIHOFER’S GHOST SIGN

With all the brickface advertisements in the Capital District vanishing minute by minute, I was thankful that I captured this sign way back in 2010. Five years later, with that building’s facade getting a repaint, I have this image available as part of the BUILT show.
DREAM WINDOW 15: WASHINGTON PARK JE T’AIME

This is the third Dream Window I’ve entered at BUILT; the previous submissions included Dream Window 2: The North Pearl Street Limited and Dream Window 9: The Madison Theater. I really hope this artwork finds a new home with an appreciative art aficionado.
Honestly, I’m just extremely thankful to get my work into BUILT this year. Because I know that BUILT is a showcase for the Capital District’s most talented painters, sculptors, photographers, graphic designers and mixed media artists, and to even get one piece accepted – let alone three – is a fantastic feeling.
This will be a lot of fun. And I hope you all can attend and have a great time enjoying the artworks and the atmosphere.
