Before I start this week’s recap of blog goodness, I would like you to take a moment and say a prayer for a local Albany sports legend.Β Luther ‘Ticky” Burden, who arguably was the greatest high school basketball legend the Capital District ever produced, is now fighting for his life.Β Burden, who was voted into the Albany City School District Hall of Fame a few years ago, is currently battling ATTR amyloidosis.Β Say a prayer for him and for his family, I’m sure that would be appreciated.
Okay.Β Now back to the blog run.Β You know the drill, every Thursday I find ten amazing blog posts by ten amazing community bloggers.Β And here we go.
- David Kalish’s “The Ruminator” blog, “My imagined contract with cockroaches.” (Read this first.)
- Sara Rose Wheeler’s “Roaring Twenties” blog, “The horrible Halloween party of 2011.“
- Professor Warren Roberts’ blog, “The curious case of Ben Carson.“
- Assemblyman John T. McDonald III’s blog, “Walgreens and Rite Aid: just another marriage in health care.“
- Rob Hoffman’s “Hoffman Files” blog, “Michael Jordan! LeBron James! … Bennie Borgmann?“
- Mary Martin’s “A Good Enough Life” blog, “Visiting Ireland and not a drop of rain!“
- Jim Shahen’s “Life and Other Things” blog, “The Golden Horseshoe.“
- Brian Huba’s “Cat’s Pajamas” blog, “Cat’s Pajamas sampler.” (Happy anniversary of blogging with the TU, bro!)
- Lale Davidson’s “Out of the Ordinary” blog, “Zombie cleanup in aisle 666 … or … why do they keep rearranging the shelves in grocery stores?“
- Assemblyman Jim Tedisco’s blog, “Raising awareness of Spina Bifida.“
Oh yeah, one more thing.
I hate to say this, but I’m going to miss Chad Polenz’ blog posts.Β Chad has taken an offer for a new job out of state, so his posts on the comic book blog and the “Beer Nut” blog will end after this week.Β And in honor of his years with the TU blog farm, I’m reposting this video in which he and I attempted a competitive eating challenge by the CultMoo exotic eating site.Β Warning – this video contains scenes of people eating cheeseburgers at a very rapid speed, so it’s not for the weak of heart.
Have a great day, blog readers!
How could there be a Halloween without a Jangoβs Zombie Blog update!
250 words a month β is that too much to ask for?

On the Move: Last Update 6/24/2015 β This is a great title for a blog because it does double dooty: It describes both the hirings in large corporations and bowel movements, both very similar activities.
Education/Student Life
M.D. to be: Last Update 5/6/2015 β last reported to be β75% Done!β Now apparently 100% done β writing this blog.

Rosemary Armao Last Update 7/10/2015 β Ladies and Gentlemen! The amazing disappearing Armao! Look βSheβs here. Sheβs gone for months. Sheβs here. Sheβs gone for months. Sheβs here. Sheβs gone for months
Weather and Climate: Last Update 3/25/2015 β Inarguably and without a doubt the single most useless blog at the Times Union (and Iβm including all the sports blogs). This blog is simply a dumping ground for students at SUNY Albanyβs meteorological program β and they pay little attention to it during the school year, and the good professors at SUNY Albany canβt be bothered to lower themselves to even post an article once a month. Their inattentiveness absolutely sickens me. How could weather NOT be important? Well, the good professors and students at SUNY Albany demonstrate that by their complete and total abandoning of this blog. Not sure my Huber keeps it around. We would be better served by having a 5-year look out the window and tell us what the weather is like.
Local: ALL UP TO DATE! Jango is so proud.
Lifestyle
On the Edge: Last Update 8/27/2015 βThe good news, it was last updated 8/27/15. Even better news would be if that was the last update for the next millennia. Kristi Gustafson Barletteβs entries are just promotions for the radio station she actually works for, which I wouldnβt mind is EVERY radio station got the chance to blog here, but they donβt. One improvement has been that she has actually been writing more than the couple dozen words she usually contributes to genre of brain farts. If she could only divorce herself from the umbilical cord that connects her to her that radio station, we may yet see columns that promote issues βon the edgeβ rather than just ticket giveaways

Christine Benedict: Last Update 5/22/15β Christine, the best thing you could do for your campaign in Colonie was to stop blogging so people are not shown your petty, angry comments leveled at anyone who is moderate, liberal or Democratic.
Religion/Beliefs: All up to date. Special good bye to the Rev. Alan Rudnick who departs the TU.
Sports
Roller Derby: Last Update 7/26/2015
Soccer as Life: Last Update 4/28/2015
SPECIAL NOMINATION: House of Hoops: Eric Medved and his amazing disappearing/reappearing blog! Medved once abandoned this sucker for 11 months in 2013/2014, and continues to do so for months at a time once the season is over. There is news on basketball all year round and even in the off-season one article a month can be squeaked out even by a non-sports fan such as myself. This House of Hoops is hitting the rim as far as sports blogging is concerned.
Official Zombie Blog Halloween Awards for Outstanding Hubris goes to (sorry, I canβt nominate myself):
The Associated Press! An army of mindless, arrogant automatons whose very existence sucks the brains out of otherwise upstanding holders of massive student loan debt. UPI used to be much better and now weβre stuck with the AP zombie corp. Tragic.
β¦and thatβs the Zombie Blog update!
