Over the past seven years, I’ve covered thousands of subjects in this weblog. Many of them are personal; others are tertiary or tangentially connected to life.
And as I blog from day to day, sometimes I lose track of some of my blogging subjects.
So today’s post will hopefully tie up some of those loose ends.
For example:
- On September 4, 2016, I blogged about receiving a cold contact from a company that claimed they could recover personal money that had been resting in the State Comptroller’s office for years. I decided to fill out the State Comptroller’s form myself and see how much money I would receive. The check arrived last Friday. I am now $27.19 richer. There’s a lot that I can purchase with $27.19, but I instead redirected that money to my bank account, and, as promised, directed it toward my car loan. Just think. I’m now $27.19 closer to paying Dracourage off.
- On August 8, 2016, I blogged about entering two of my pictures in the Saint John (New Brunswick) Exposition, my first attempt at entering my photos in a Canadian photography fair. Despite my best efforts, however, neither The Jumbuck nor The Saratoga and North Creek Railroad received any ribbons. Another photo failure this year, in a season that’s seemed rather heavy on photo failures.
- On April 4, 2011, I blogged about the deplorable conditions at an animal sanctuary known as the GuZoo. The private zoo kept exotic animals in horrendous conditions, and the Gustafson family that owned the zoo tried every dodge to keep the zoo open – claiming that the land was now part of a religious enclave, for example, or threatening to sell off the exotic animals to private hunting organizations. In May of 2015, the GuZoo finally closed for good. The owners tried to replace the exotic animals with domestic ones, with the hopes of opening a petting zoo or a puppy farm, but as of 2016 the park remains closed. Good.
- On March 4, 2014, I blogged about the deteriorating conditions at Santa’s Land, a holiday-themed amusement park in Putney, Vermont. At the time I blogged about this amusement park, it was in a terrible state – the animals were either dead or woefully malnourished, and the owners were blaming everybody but themselves for the disgraceful mismanagement of the beloved park. At the time, one of my blog readers chastised me, claiming that I had written a very unbalanced blog about the situation. “What if there IS no wrong doing, that they are taking care of the animals and it was just very, very bad luck … who will give them back their good name? Will you post an abject apology and retraction?” Well, considering that the former owner of Santa’s Land appeared in court in April 2016, trying to dodge paying over $36,000 in restitution to organizations who are taking care of the surviving animals after they were seized from the property. As for that retraction … no need to write one when I was correct all along.
- On May 31, 2012, I blogged about the struggles former NHL / Albany River Rat enforcer Krzysztof Oliwa has undergone. From all the concussions and fights he went through, I worried that Oliwa might be suffering from CTE. In October of 2015, Oliwa was listed among several NHL veterans as part of a class action lawsuit against the NHL, claiming that the NHL turned a blind eye to concussions and other traumatic brain injuries. I hope Oliwa and the rest of the NHL players are successful in their fight. This truly is the toughest fight Oliwa has ever encountered. But I know he can come through this in victory.
- On May 17, 2012, I blogged about basketball player Modibo Diarra and his attempt to rescue his wife and child from war-ravaged Mali, and bring them to North America. I am happy to say that not only did the entire family safely relocate to Canada, Modibo Diarra has operated a series of basketball camps in his newly-adopted country. I like stories with happy endings. This is one of them.
- On May 23, 2010, I blogged about sending some antique camera film to a processing company called Rocky Mountain Film Lab. The payment was made, and the film… still hasn’t been returned to me, developed or otherwise. What, you think I forgot about this? Silly you.
So there you have it. Loose ends, all nicely tied up in a bow. Well, except for Rocky Mountain Film Lab. And the Bottle Service web series, which still hasn’t seen the light of day five years after I participated in it.
I guess some blog posts should still have a “To Be Continued” sticker on them…
