It’s coming and it’s coming quickly.
The 2018 Altamont Fair – the tri-county agricultural and cultural gathering – is approaching fast.
And here’s your chance to submit your photographs and paintings for consideration in the Altamont Fair’s Fine Arts Building.
The Altamont Fair will accept up to four of your photographs, paintings, drawings, watercolors and other constructs. There’s even a special category this year, “It Came From Outer Space,” and you can enter your artworks in that themed section as well.
Here’s how it works.

Decide which of your four entries deserves to be in which categories. Keep your entries family-friendly and appropriate for a fair setting.
Print out the submission sheet and fill it out. Mail in the entry list (along with a check for $5 / entry, maximum of $20 for four entries) to the Altamont Fair. Send that entry in by no later than July 27, 2018.
Meanwhile, it’s time for preparation. Make sure your entries are properly framed (if necessary) and ready to hang. All these artworks will be spread throughout the Fine Arts Barn on the Altamont Fairgrounds, so you want to make sure that your works look nice.
You also need to attach a 3″x5″ index card to the back of your entry. The card must contain the artwork’s title, your name, your phone number and a sale price (or “NFS” if not for sale).
Then comes drop-off day, which this year is Saturday, August 11, 2018. Bring your artworks to the building, items will be accepted only between 1pm and 4pm. Getting there earlier rather than later will work best. This is different than in past years, in that the drop-off day used to be on a Sunday.
All artworks will be judged on Monday, August 13, and the Fair opens on Tuesday, August 14.
On Sunday, August 19, the Fair will award the “People’s Choice” Best in Show rosette, and “Best in Show” is voted on by the fairgoers. This is cool.
Artwork may then be claimed only after 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, or from between 3-6 p.m. on Monday, August 20.
Oh, and I should mention that there’s a category for young artists in this show – kids can enter up to four artworks, without an entry fee. So this is a great way to get started in artistic competition and gallery shows.
I definitely hope to see your creations at the Altamont Fair this year. As I said before, download the “Call for Art” prospectus in this blog for more information.
