Why are you reading my blog today? What is wrong with you? Are there no presents under the tree that you can open in front of friends and family?
Man, I gotta do everything around here…
Okay. If you’re going to open up some Christmas gifts…
At least let me provide the soundtrack for opening those Christmas gifts, ‘kay? You know … turn on the old Yule log, put on the ugly sweater (and some pants, come on, it’s Christmas) and have some K-Chuck Radio Christmas music for unwrapping your girts.
Let’s start with –
This nice bouncy number is sung by country music performer Kelly Prescott, she’s one of the performers on the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train show that travels throughout America and Canada from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I should note that Kelly opened her train concerts with this song, and it’s a cute track.
One More Sleep
Leona Lewis is best known for her hit “Bleeding Love,” and eventually when you have a big enough hit, you get to record a Christmas track. And this one is a very nice Christmas track.
“WEIRD AL” YANKOVIC
The Night Santa Went Crazy
The legend himself, “Weird Al” Yankovic, recorded two different versions of this song, there’s an “extra gory version” that pops up on Dr. Demento’s radio show now and again. That’s right … there’s an “extra gory version” of this song. Wow.
Oh man I forgot how great this song was. Trust me, in high school Kurtis Blow was the BOMB – this song and “The Breaks” were the jam. And this was at least five years before Run-DMC cranked out “Christmas in Hollis.”
R2-D2 and C-3PO
We Wish You A Merry Christmas
If you can get through the schmaltz of this recording, you might recognize one of the lead singers of this track. Yep … a few years before his band broke through with songs like “Runaway” and “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Living on a Prayer” – yep, that’s Jon Bon Jovi in his first professional recording session.
Fairytale of New York
You have to love a Christmas song that can fight its way into being a holiday classic. And for every argument that “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” shouldn’t be part of the Christmas playlist, there are others that argue that this song should get more exposure than it currently does.
Holy Shit, It’s Christmas!
This twisted take on a guy singing with rodents – think David Seville and the Chipmunks – is just funny as hell. And probably not safe for children. And do you know how long I’ve waited to put this song on a K-Chuck Radio playlist? The Times Union would NEVER let me add this when my blog was with their portal…
I’m going to burn in hell for this last one … but I don’t care.
That’s right … as a tie-in with the movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, there was an actual Christmas song – as sung by your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Hey look, it’s either that or a song from that Broadway show Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, which one do you want?
Okay, go back to opening fits. Your family wants you to enjoy the holiday season, not stare at your phone and read my blog. Unless someone got you underwear and fruitcakes for Christmas. That’s just like totally wrong.
Have a happy, everybody – from all of us at K-Chuck Radio!
