I haven’t written very much about Madison Cawthorn, one of the assemblage of Republican representatives who have manure for brains. But I do know a few things about Cawthorn. He lied about his college background, and he just praised an American war enemy in a television interview.
Granted, the interview was on Newsmax, a broadcast outlet that isn’t even the most interesting “max” out there (after Cinemax and HBO Max and a few other Maxes). Take a listen to this, as Cawthorn attempts to argue against the nominee for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Okay, first of all, Madison Cawthorn should not be consulted on anything involving truth. He’s been pedaling this fiction about him being accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy, only to lose out on attending there when he was involved in a horrific car crash that destroyed his legs and confined him to a wheelchair. Well, Cawthorn applied for the Naval Academy, that is true. But the Naval Academy rejected Cawthorn, and the rejection came BEFORE Cawthorn’s car crash. So any time that Cawthorn gives anyone the impression that he served in the Navy … he didn’t.
And I’m sure the Navy would have loved a man of Madison Cawthorn’s high moral character. Just ask some of his classmates at Patrick Henry College.
And don’t even get me started on Madison Cawthorn’s reprehensible comments about Jewish people – as well as his fascination with Adolf Hitler.
But I’m focusing right now on Cawthorn’s comments about the Vietnam War, and his classification that the Viet Cong were essentially a ragtag army of citizen soldiers who held off the invading Americans.
Madison Cawthorn, you have no fucking clue. No fucking clue whatsoever.
First off, the Viet Cong – or, more properly, the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam – was not a batch of farmers with some pistols. They were a highly trained army, and they had help from not only the North Vietnamese army, but also from the Communists in Russia and in China. It was the Viet Cong whose rocket launchers shot pilot John McCain out of the sky and took him prisoner, for example.
And Madison Cawthorn’s blatant ignorance of the Vietnam War is a slap in the face to those who fought in it. Let me say this. Those who fought for America should not be marginalized by some stolen valor chump who thinks he could have been the model for John Rambo.
Then again, Madison Cawthorn is such a big proponent of police and justice, especially since he was one of 21 House Republicans who voted AGAINST honoring the Capitol Police who helped protect our elected officials in the January 6 Insurrection attack. Yeah. Real “back the blue” vibes there, Madison Cawthorn.
You know what? I can’t even. I guess in Madison Cawthorn’s world, it’s okay to support Adolf Hitler and Ho Chi Minh. Because, apparently, he’d rather praise them instead of supporting Americans and understanding our history.
But then again, since we know his history is full of stolen valor, I guess that speaks for itself.
The fact that Madison Cawthorn is not the biggest idiot in Congress – that would be Louie Goemert – tells you the quality level of our Congress.
Goemert admitted that he’s a moron, but, then, there’s also Marjorie Moldy Peaches, Madison Foghorn, DoorMatt Gaetz…….
While certainly not a defender of Cawthorn and his ilk, I must state a correction. John McCain was shot down near Hanoi, North Vietnam by the North Vietnamese military. The Viet Cong were a supposed insurgent group in South Vietnam though they were supported heavily and most probably initially created by the North. The Viet Cong stopped being an effective military force after the Tet Offensive and the onset of the Phoenix Program by the US and South Vietnam.
