It’s been a while. I will admit this. But this Saturday, I’m going back into the competitive bar trivia game.
Trivia Bowl 17 is coming to the Capital Region.
I’ve played in Trivia Bowls for nearly 15 years, with my Street Academy team winning Trivia Bowls III and VI. And over the years, I’ve worked with several people as teammates. Many of them are still my good friends.
But this year, due to concerns about the coronavirus and the spread of its Omicron variant, I’m going to play this year’s trivia championship in a different way.
I’m going in solo.
Not because I can’t find teammates – trust me, I could round up a team in two snaps of my fingers. But with the spread of Omicron right now, I’d feel uncomfortable putting people on the spot to join me in a crowded ballroom to play competitive bar trivia. Heck, I’m going to be masked up to luchador level myself, just to avoid getting COVID as an unwanted teammate.
Plus, this will be an additional challenge for me. When I first started playing bar and tavern trivia, my Street Academy trivia team was a one-man trivia team. One man. Little old me. And I did pretty well for myself. Not to say that I didn’t enjoy having teammates now and again, but there were times when I just wanted to sneak off to a bar and play a couple of rounds of question and answer, and it’s not always something you can call up your buddies and have them drop what they’re doing.
This will actually also be my first Trivia Bowl in years where I can actually compete. I’ve had scheduling conflicts, broken ankles, COVID shutdowns, all of that, which previously derailed my participation. So just being able to show up at Trivia Bowl is a big fat win in and of itself.
So win or lose, I’ll be at the Holiday Inn this Saturday for Trivia Bowl.
Let’s see how this turns out.
Guess who’s back.
Tell a friend. 😀
