This blog post needs to be read in Florida. Out loud. In front of Ron DeSantis.

Ron DeSantis, are you listening?

Listen clearly.

Ron DeSantis, you are a racist, homophobic clown whose actions as Governor of Florida are shameful and repulsive. Your pandering to the most vulgar hatred of the constituents and taxpayers of your state is reprehensible and putrid.

And by the time this blog post gets published, I suppose you’ve already signed that disgusting “Don’t Say Gay” bill into law, which would make it a crime to teach any positive history or lessons about those in the LGBTQ community. In other words, you’re trying to do to LGBTQ people the same thing that Indian schools and residential schools tried to do to First Nations and indigenous peoples. You’re trying to remove their history, their culture, their pride and their achievements. Your actions reduce the lives of LGBTQ Floridians into viewing them as subhumans.

And I have a big problem with that.

Let me make this clear. I have excommunicated people from my life who have treated those of the rainbow as a joke. These are the same yonks who espouse the knuckle-dragging mantra of “I support same-sex marriage as long as both chicks are hot.” Yeesh.

I have removed people from my life who think that being within the radius of a gay person might infect them with gay desires. Or worse, that being gay might make you into a pedophile or a pederast. Grow up, you chuds.

Trust me. I speak from the experience of grade school. I remember many times, in several of the schools I attended, where a student was ostracized and beaten up and tormented by other classmates. Teased and taunted with words like “faggot” and “homo” and “queer” and “fairy.” Beaten and hurt, with no one to turn to. And for what? Is there some infallible “gaydar” that allows you to single out some 4th grader, call them gay, and then beat the shit out of them because you think that their being gay (according to your opinion) deserves to get beaten?

Because here’s what’s going to happen with that Don’t Say Gay bill. Someone’s going to use that as justification to attack someone in the LGBTQ community. Trust me, it will happen. I still recall the day some asshole took a gun into the Pulse nightclub and shot the place up, killing several people who were just there to have a good time and dance and feel free. And with this Don’t Say Gay bill, some idiot in Florida is going to think, “Well, I think it’s time for me to enforce this bill.” And I don’t want to know what weapons he plans on using for “enforcement.”

And for those of you who can’t wrap your noggins around this, let me make this as clear as possible. Being gay does not mean that a gay person wants to have sex with you any more than a straight person wants to have sex with you. Being near a gay person does not magically make you gay. It’s not like you get some special rainbow-painted keychain that says you’re gay.

So hear me clearly, Ron DeSantis. Your little Don’t Say Gay bill has at least confirmed something for me.

I will not visit Florida for any vacation or business trip, so long as the Don’t Say Gay bill is in effect and/or you are still Governor, whichever lasts longer. No Disney World. No Daytona 500. I don’t care if someone gifts me courtside seats to a Miami Heat game during the NBA playoffs. Don’t need them, don’t want them. My dollars can be spent elsewhere and I can have just as much fun spending them elsewhere.

You are a shameful, petty man, Ron DeSantis.

Oh, and one more thing, Governor Ron DeSantis.
