Last night, the Albany Patroons were in a dire situation. They’re currently in a best-of-three semifinal championship match with the Kokomo BobKats, and the Pats lost Game 1 on the road in Kokomo – in front of a packed house full of cowbell-toting fans and a noisy fan drumline.
What, you think Kokomo was loud?
Have you never attended a game at the Armory?
Well, in addition to the screaming, cheering fans at the Armory Sunday night for Game 2 of the series …
Sunday was also “Pots and Pans Night.”
Yep. The fans brought their pots and pans to the game, and they band and clanged on them like it was “make your own instrument day” in 2nd grade music class.
Trust me. Eddie Van Halen guitar solos weren’t as loud as last night in the Armory.
And with that, the Patroons completely took over the game. They held Kokomo’s big scorers to minimal points, and Mike Williams hit some clutch 3-pointers in the third quarter to help Albany snag a 106-89 Game 2 victory, with the deciding contest – and the chance to advance to the TBL Finals – scheduled for tonight at 7pm at the Armory.
Trust me. This is big. Albany needs this win. One more victory and we get to face the team from Shreveport for the TBL title.
And let me say this. WE NEVER LOST OUR CHANCE TO DEFEND OUR 2019 VICTORY.
Explanation.
The Patroons won the TBL championship in 2019. The 2020 season was shortened by COVID-19. And the Pats didn’t play in 2021 because the Armory was used as a COVID-19 vaccination station. So we’re back. And we’re ready to bang. Bang like pots and pans.
Or as a great man once said … that’s right. We bad. We bad.
What great man said this?
This great man said this.
So let’s win this tonight. Bring the pots and the pans and the loudest voices you can.
We gotta win this.
DID YOU HEAR ME???
I SAID, WE GOTTA WIN THIS!!!!
I went to my daughter’s HS graduation yesterday, and I heard the distinctive sound of a cowbell.
And I said, “Less cowbell!”

Impressive team, season and clutch win.
And kudos to NBA coach in the rough (a la Phil Jackson) Will Brown.
Good luck tonight!
