It’s Memorial Day Weekend, when we honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and we have to deal with clowns who tell us that we’re not celebrating the holiday correctly. “Oh, Memorial Day is for the fallen and Veteran’s Day is for the living, get it right you knuckle dragger,” I’ve heard people say to me. To them I say, as long as you remember our military in one form or another, don’t be a clown about it.
Another thing to not be a clown about … enjoying the wrapup of the bloggers and photographers and essayists who make up my personal blogroll. Enjoy.
And we do have a couple of things to celebrate – Audley Stephenson’s “Best Audacious Life” podcast has reached 300 episodes; and Thomas Slatin and Amelia Desertsong have just reached their three-year wedding anniversary. Congrats to all!

Have a great weekend, everybody!
For those who have never cracked open a history book, Memorial Day (which originated in NY as I’m sure you know) commemorates the return of soldiers from American Civil War whereas Veterans’ Day (known as Armistice Day in other parts of the world) commemorates the ending of World War I. Neither is about ‘celebrating war’ nor are they divided into honouring exclusively living/dead soldiers. (Despite this being factual I’m sure someone will feel the need to argue about it because people like showing off how ignorant they are.) And yes I can tell you stories.
