The Pentacon Six TL goes to the harness track

In an effort to make my Pentacon Six TL camera more functional and versatile, I wanted to test its ability to handle fast sports action.

And right now, the best case for “fast sports action” for me is a visit to the Saratoga Harness race track. I packed a roll of expired Kodak Portra 800 film in the Pentacon Six TL chassis, set the shutter speed to 1/1000 and the exposure to f/16.

Oh yeah, and I parked the camera right on the rail.

I’m telling you, that new yellow skin on the Pentacon Six TL looks absolutely juicy.

And now it’s time to test out this new film scanner with the received film. I shot these with Kodak Portra 800 film ,mostly shot at f/2.8 with a 1:500 second shutter release. The film itself was way past its expiration date, so there’s a lot of color weirdness going on … but I was able to get the Pentacon Six TL to play nicely and get some decent shots.

None of these photos are going into any Competition Season output … but the results DO show me that I can get decent action shots out of this Pentacon Six TL medium format shooter, so long as I get decent unspoiled 400 or 800 film, work with lots of sunshine, and try to keep the sun at my back rather than overhead.

Again … more testing will be necessary for me to get this medium-format beast to work to my advantage.

And I’m more than happy to get more testing into this bad boy.

Let’s make it happen.
