Self-Portrait at 6:00 a.m.

To understand this photograph … you have to know my bedroom / office.

Not “know” in the Biblical sense. Get your mind out of the gutter.

My desktop computer is in my bedroom, and I have a window that greets the rising sun behind me as I type the morning’s blog post. Sometimes the early morning provides inspiration; sometimes it provides comfort.

In this case … I noticed something as I typed.

There was a shadow against the blue-white wall – a shadow featuring my profile, along with a couple of refracted sunbeams that intersected with my glasses.

Now comes the fun part. Can I capture this in a photo without ruining the angle or introducing the phone into the shadow?

Reached for the cell phone. Tried to angle my head to recreate those eye-beam rays.

Trust me, this is not a great angle for one’s neck.

But after a couple of shots … and some judicious neck-straining …

Here’s what came out.

I’m not sure if this would be Competition Season-worthy … but it’s a nice experimental diversion. And I’ll take that for sure.
