It’s August 25, 2009, and I’m migrating my independent blog from a self-hosting site with a blogspot.com suffix to the main blogfarm of the Albany Times Union’s media center.
And in that move, I asked the blogfarm operator, Mike Huber, how often I should blog for the site.
He said about once a day is a good average.
I took that as a personal challenge.
And once a day – for the past SEVENTEEN YEARS – there has been fresh content on this blog every morning. That includes the first eight-plus years on the Times Union’s blogfarm, and the next nine-plus years in a return to the independent blog scene.
Damn. That Chuck Miller can’t keep his damn mouth shut, can he?
Wow. Seventeen years, once a day, every day. Seventeen years of photo creations. Seventeen years of fiction writing.
Seventeen years of radio, real and virtual. Seventeen years of the Nightowl Radio Show and K-Chuck Radio.
Seventeen years of Albany Patroons interactions. Seventeen years with the National Basketball League of Canada and the Premier Basketball League and Saratoga Harness and everywhere else.
Seventeen years of love and pain. Seventeen years of mourning those who are not with us, and seventeen years of honoring their lives.
Seventeen years of words like The Six and Cardachrome and Blackbird and Dracourage and Lightning’s Girl and Chuck Force One.
Seventeen years of Nikon and Kodak and Krasnogorsk and Pentacon and AGFA and Ansco.
Seventeen years of Syracurse and Syra-triumph.
Seventeen years of Amish Mafia episodic reviews for the fakest reality TV show ever created.
Seventeen years of Vincent and Paisley and the Carissima Hamsters and Bismarck and Butterscotch and Stapravi.
Seventeen years of Iverhill.
Seventeen years of trivia – championships and failures and current hosting.
Seventeen years of photography projects with words like “splitfilm” and “eclipse” and “slitscan” and “lenticular” and “three-dimensional” and “triple blue.”
Seventeen years of the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train and the Saratoga, Corinth & Hudson Railway and the Strasburg Rail Road and the Union Pacific.
Some of you readers joined me very recently. Others have been on this journey the entire way.
But today – August 25 – is the day I celebrate my blog’s true birthday. Not just as an experimental “let’s post something today if I think about it” concept. No. This is posting every day whatever the hamster on the wheel in my skull wants to generate.
So happy seventeenth birthday, chuckthewriter.blog.
(Oh, and happy 63rd birthday to me. Seems that this blog coincidentally appeared 46 years to the day that I appeared). 😀
Happy birthday, Chuck!
You know, only a fool would try to blog every day. Don’t you have a life? (Commenter looks at mirror…)
