Driving Thanksgiving dinners for Equinox 2014

I’ve watched the weather report for days.  Winter is coming so quickly, you would think that George R.R. Martin was a meteorologist. And it’s given me pause.  Delivering turkey dinners on Thanksgiving is an important duty for me.  But should I do it in a snowstorm?  What if I get stuck in a ditch while…

Upcoming Albany Institute of History and Art exhibition to feature baseball, local and national

Many years ago, when I was clearing out most of my accumulated collections in the wake of my divorce, I bundled up boxes of Albany-based scorecards and game programs and memorabilia, all for donation to the Albany Institute of History and Art for their records and archives. The other day, I heard from Tammis Groft,…

Why I drive for Equinox on Thanksgiving Day

Every year, I’ve associated this charitable tradition – delivering turkey dinners on Thanksgiving Day for those in the Capital District who need them – as one of the most important and charitable functions I can undertake each year. And as much as I feel good about this holiday every year… Sometimes I get the feeling…

At this point in my blogging history with the Times Union, I’ve achieved several records and marks in my five-plus years of blogging. And we’re not just talking about my consecutive-day-blogging streak here. I’ve crafted a blog post that had 1,000 words – none of which contained the letter “e”. I’ve written a blog post that was a thousand-word sentence. I’ve written at least one or two blog posts that were scanned typewritten pages; I’ve done blog posts that were nothing but an assemblage of photographs and intertitles. Heck, I even had one blog post where the letters were printed upside-down – making people actually rotate their computer monitors to read my post. Ha ha ha. This is what I call “fun.” So why do I do this? It’s more of a personal challenge, to see if I can use the framework of blogging, the metaphysics of meta-blogging, if you will, to create new ideas and new concepts. It’s almost like using toothpicks and chopsticks as painting implements, while using paint rollers and brushes to serve food. So after I’ve created these experimental blog posts, I’ve now decided that this current blog post will set two new marks in my TU blogging career … today’s TU blog post contains the longest title ever on this TU portal … and this blog post also sets a record with the shortest blog content…

ever.

Theft is the sincerest form of flattery

My friend Whitney Avalon, who has carved herself a nice little niche as an actress, is not happy.  And I can understand why.
