Night of the Simian as a fundraising limited edition print #BecauseHamilton

I graduated from Hamilton College in 1985.  I will participate in my 35th reunion this upcoming June.

But before that … I want to make my fellow Class of 1985’ers a special offer and challenge.

Let me explain.

On Friday, November 15, there will be a major college fundraising initiative, which the college is branding as #BecauseHamilton.  It’s got the hype of Amazon Prime Day, but narrowly focused to a liberal arts college in central New York.

And after participating in a conference call yesterday with members of my class and with the Alumni Relations department …

I’m going to formalize a new initiative of my own.

Last year, in an effort to get alumni to make their first-ever donations back to the college, I offered one of my artworks as an incentive – you donate, I give to you.  It worked out positively.

So this year, I’m going to up the ante.

Although the parameters have not yet been finalized, I’m going to offer a limited-edition print of the artwork you see here, Night of the Simian.

The Night of the Simian. Nikon Df camera, Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens, 6400 ISO, 30 seconds at f/2.4. Photo (c) Chuck Miller, all rights reserved.

Night of the Simian, photographed against the backdrop of an old abandoned monkey cage in a long-shuttered zoo, will be manufactured as a numbered and limited edition print.  Most likely 8×10, printed out to 11×14 for framing.  Each piece will be titled, numbered and signed.  I will NOT enter this photo in any competition, nor will I make any more prints of this picture.  Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Although the college and I are still hammering out the necessary specs and sparks, the idea is to make 15 prints of Night of the Simian, which would in turn be offered to the first 15 members of the Class of ’85 who donate for the first time.  And if you haven’t donated back to old Ham Tech in 35 years, I’m thinking you need some wall-hanging incentive.

Again, more details will come as soon as they are finalized.  But the idea is to donate as soon as you can, I’m only making 15 of these.  And trust me, this is the first time I’ve ever personally limited ANY of my artworks.  I’m not even going to make prints of Night of the Simian for Competition Season 2020.

So I say this to my Hamilton College classmates.  Keep an eye on your social media platforms and on this blog for more details.

You know you want this.
