A big win for the Albany Patroons last night, 130-120 over Tri-State

I’m still trying to work my way back from an ankle injury, which kept me from attending the Albany Patroons’ home opener at the Armory last night.  And although I couldn’t be there in spirit … at least I could watch the game online.

And what I saw was the Patroons shake off some early season rust and take a much-needed victory over the expansion Tri-State Admirals of Jersey City, 130-120.

When you’ve got a powerhouse like Shadell Millinghaus draining 30 points, yanking down 20 rebounds and dishing out nine dimes, it helps.  It also helps to have big man Anthony Moe with 20 points and 11 rebounds, and some help from the new crew – including Anthony Allen, who came off the bench to score 17.

I’ll even give a tip of the hat to Brent Schuck – even though for years he, as a member of the Yakima Sun Kings, used to give me fits when they beat the Patroons almost at will.  Now as a member of the Patroons, Schuck scored 16 in the victory and even dove for some balls in the final moments, at the expense of lacerating his face.  When you dress in the gold and kelly green, you may need to let a little claret flow.

But watching the game online is one thing.  I still need to get better so that I can return to the broadcast platform for Albany’s next home game – February 14th against Raleigh.

Two weeks away.

It feels like two years away.
