I get it. I get it. COVID-19 is breaking everything.
And my last possible hope for something to come out of Competition Season this year has just been dashed.
I submitted several digital photos to the Washington State Fair, in the hopes that COVID-19 had finally floated away from that state.
No dice. They just cancelled their fair.
So what does that mean for me? Most likely, all my entry fees will be shipped back to me. And all my photos will have to wait for another competition.
The only thing I still have left for Competition Season are the Capital District Photo Regionals, which are scheduled to take place in the fall – whether they’re online or in a gallery, I’m not 100% sure.
So this is what Competition Season 2020 has looked like.
I have one Best of Department, for my photo Graduation With A Bang.

Everything else…
- Iowa State Fair – cancelled.
- Altamont Fair – cancelled.
- New York State Fair – cancelled.
- The Big E – cancelled.
- Durham Fair – cancelled.
- Washington State Fair – cancelled.
Straight-up ugh.
And let’s see what else has been cancelled in Chuck’s life.
- Albany Patroons basketball season.
- NBL Canada basketball season.
- 4th of July at the Empire State Plaza.
At this point, all I have left this year is BUILT, the Equinox Thanksgiving Day turkey dinners, and the CP Holiday Train. And if those get taken away from me…
Then you may as well cancel Christmas, because I will have nothing to celebrate.
Thanks a pantload, COVID-19.
On the up side you’re not in a hospital connected to a ventilator.
Or dead.

But if I was dead … could you imagine the photos I could take in the afterlife? Well, then again, it would be kinda difficult to show them to living people afterwards…
