So I heard this rumor. Not that I believe in rumors, but you never know.
Supposedly, the recipe for the Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich involves marinating the chicken in pickle juice. Well, not “marinating,” per se, but brining it. Letting the chicken soak in pickle juice for up to 24 hours.
Well, let’s see. What if I want this tasty chicken food that apparently everybody who eats it loves it, without feeling like I’ve turned my back on the LGBTQ community? Because, as is common knowledge, Chick-fil-A gives a lot of money to anti-gay and anti-trans organizations.
Can’t have that.
But if I can make my own chicken that TASTES like Chick-fil-A chicken, I may be able to sidestep this little ethical conundrum.
- One boneless chicken breast
- One jar of dill pickles
- One box of Shake ‘n Bake mix (I used Extra Crispy)
- Kosher salt (because every meal needs Kosher salt)
Okay. Eat the dill pickles, but make sure you keep the pickle juice.
Place the chicken breast in a plastic food-seal bag, and then pour in the pickle juice until the chicken breast is completely submerged. Push out any air. Seal the bag. Put the bag in the fridge. Leave it there. I left mine in there for six hours.
Took it out, it looked like this.
Next step. Open a box of Shake ‘n Bake. Pour the crumbs into the Shake ‘n Bake bag. Place the chicken into the bag. Shake the hell out of until the chicken is coated in crumbs.
Oh yeah, the pickle juice has done its job. Dump it down the drain. And put the Kosher salt back in the cupboard until we need it for another meal.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Put the chicken on some aluminum foil.
Cook for 20 minutes. If this had been a boned chicken breast, cook for 45 minutes.
But if course, if you give your love a chicken that has no bone, John Belushi will destroy your guitar.
Ding, chicken is done.
And here’s what the first slice looks like.
Sweet lord, that’s moist. Moist and tender. And although you can still taste the pickle juice inside, you definitely can sense a distinct difference – a tasty distinct difference – in the chicken.
And I can eat this chicken while maintaining a good conscience.
So there you have it, a new recipe for all you bachelors out there.
Tune in next time when I try to figure out if the secret ingredient in Popeye’s chicken sandwich is spinach. Or maybe it’s spinach juice, I don’t know… 😀
