In 2020, I submitted some film-generated stereoscopy images to an international 3D stereo photo competition in Vienna, the Photographische Gesellschaft in Wien. Unfortunately, the photos were not selected for the show.
Fast forward to 2023. I’ve got a more stable setup with some killer stereoscopic images, and once again, the 3D stereo photo competition is active. Okay. Let’s do this.
But there’s a twist. From the organization group’s website:
Unfortunately due to the ageing members who no longer have the energy, this will be the last open competition organised by the [photography group]. We hope that another stereo association will continue the competition. It is very important that the excellent contemporary work in the field of stereoscopy is documented.
So I currently have less than three months to create four killer stereoscopic images for this competition. There’s no financial prize for the show – certificates will be awarded, and the winning image(s) will be displayed on the organization’s website. So it’s just bragging rights. I’m good with bragging rights. I just want to be able to use those bragging rights. 😀
Damn. I’d better come up with something that will knock their socks off.
I have until April 1st to submit my four images, so as far as I’m concerned, all of my stereoscopic images – covered bridges, railway imagery, nature, whatever – will be essentially in a personal “knockout” competition until I find the four that will be my best of the batch. And I can’t submit four of the same type of images – I can submit two covered bridge shots, but no more than that.
This is tough. But I’ve never backed down from a challenge. And I’m not backing down from one in 2023. So there.
So for example … this would be one of my “stereoscopic” shots for this competition.
If you relax your gaze, letting the two images blend together, you’ll see the stereoscopic results. This is one of my entries. I’ve got two others for sure – but I want to have my four best shots for this.
And I’ve only got two and a half months to create them, if I don’t have them already.
Yeah, I’m not asking much.
But we shall see.
