Regular followers of my blog know that I went through a serious health crisis. It involved a vascular bypass in my leg and the removing of an ulcerative and infected abscess in my left foot. For the past two weeks, I’ve been using a wound vac to suck out any of the remaining post-surgery toxins in my foot, and today is the day that … hopefully … I’ll be able to get the stitches and sutures and staples removed from my leg.

Yeah. Five more stitches and it would have reached my … well … you know.
Originally my plan was to have the staples and sutures removed last Friday, as I was under the concept that the hardware could come out two weeks after surgery. But the vascular doctor I went to that Friday refused to take them out, saying that they need to stay in for three weeks at a minimum to keep from complications. So I’ve been hobbling around for a third week with this hardware in my leg.
On the other hand … my days with the wound vac are ending as of tomorrow. The progress on my wound has been incredible, so much so that I can progress to some products that act as a wound wrap to continue the healing. They are substances called Prisma and Hydrofera Blue – both of which can be purchased over the counter on Amazon. I’ll have to apply these products to my foot three times a week, but they should continue to foster healthy tissue and skin cover.
But the big thing is … by Friday afternon, I’ll be free of the wound vac. And I’ll be free of these damn bolts and rivets and weldmarks in my leg. Which will allow me a modicum of flexibility. And a deep breath of normalcy.
And believe me … I so very much want that.
I’ll keep you updated on the progress.
But we’re getting there. We’ve come a long way in just a short time.
It’s been a journey … but now the journey seems to be on better terrrain.
Happy to hear it, Chuck.
