The Return of the Snowflake Ride

There are photos in my archive that, for one reason or another, I just love to enter into competitions.

Case in point – a photo I took a few years ago at the New York State Fair, a photo of a scrambler thrill ride in mid-scramble, is still part of my catalog and, on occasion, I’ll enter it in competitions and art show calls.

Specifically – this photo.

The Snowflake Ride. Rolleiflex Automat MX camera, Fuji Velvia 100 film. Photo (c) 2021 Chuck Miller, all rights reserved.

I caught this image in the summer of 2021. In 2022, I entered The Snowflake Ride at the New York State Fair’s photography competition, and the image took a blue ribbon.

Surprisingly, though, I never entered it in any other competition or art show after that initial victory.

But this year, when the New Jersey International Photography competition opened up their call for art, I added The Snowflake Ride along with several other more recent image captures.

And last Monday … surprisingly … while the other images didn’t make the cut, The Snowflake Ride will now receive some love at the upcoming late fall show in Watchung. This will be my FIFTH acceptance at the New Jersey International Photography Competition, and first time since 2022 that any of my artworks have made it to a juried art show.

Fantastic.

Of course, now I have to consider a few things. No, I’m not talking about printing and framing and shipping, I’ve already considered those.

But what I DO want to consider is … should I give this picture another dust-off in my Competition Seasons going forward?

You know what? Maybe I will. 😀
