Oh, so THAT’s where the new Albany Center Gallery is now located!!

It’s a synergy, I tell you. It has to be.

Yesterday, after I posted my blog about taking my artwork The Shooting Star to the new Albany Center Gallery location, one of my friends, Roger Green, messaged me to suggest I list ACG’s new address, as they have moved from their former location to this new spot on 48 North Pearl Street in Albany.

So at lunchtime, I walked over to 48 North Pearl Street to drop The Shooting Star off for the members’ show. And as I approached the building …

A memory floated back in my mind.

I know this building.

I remember buying things in this building.

And even though the sign was detached from the facade 30+ years ago, I can still make out the lettering in negative relief on the stone front.

This is the old Schatz Stationery building!

Yes, this was one of the Schatz Stationery locations – there was one in Colonie Center, there was one in the former Mohawk Mall in Schenectady, and for all the businesses that operated in downtown Albany at the time, there was a Schatz for their needs as well!

Holy thingamajigdoodadknicknackwhateveryouneed, Batman…

Now I’d probably have to hand this over to the Albany history blog “Hoxsie” for them to do a deep dive on the building and its tenants, but I do believe that after Schatz left the property in the late 1980’s or early 1990’s, the building housed a pizzeria for a few years before going dormant.

So now it’s the home of Albany Center Gallery, which is a huge upgrade in size and in footprint from its previous address.

So I can’t wait until January 2026 to see The Shooting Star on the new gallery walls.

And at the same time, I can’t wait until January 2026 to see the new gallery itself.

Great. Now I’ve got that Schatz jingle stuck in my head. Fantastic. 😀
