Breaking Bad was an incredible drama series. Over its 60+ episodes, you could see the gradual change of a struggling chemistry teacher who turns into a methamphetamine-manufacturing drug kingpin. The show was well-written and deep.
And now … we get the parody show.
This popped up on my Tubi feed, so I watched a couple of episodes.
Brace yourself. It’s a show called Breaking Bear.
Yep. Bears making meth. Yogi is the one who knocks, amirite?
Hoo freakin’ boy this show is profane. Plenty of curse words. Plenty of adult situations. Lots of drug use and mayhem and inter-species bom chicka wow wow.
And the voice cast is definitely distinctive. Brendan Fraser shows that he can curse with the best of them (heck, he did that years ago as the voice of Robotman in the HBO series Doom Patrol), while Sarah Michelle Gellar also gets a bit of potty mouth going in the series. And Josh Gad gets to play a hyperactive honey and meth addicted bear. Yeah, I’m still amazed I typed those words out in full sentences. There’s also human characters, including the meth manufacturing high school teach named Dwight Salters (oh, it’s Walter White, I get it).
I get it. This is for people who think South Park and Family Guy aren’t vulgar enough. George Carlin would blush at some of the dialogue on this program. This is not a Rick and Morty-style satirical program. This is just crude humor with bears. And those are the bear facts.
I made it through two and a half episodes before saying, “I can’t watch any more of this. Not even as background noise.” But your mileage may vary.
Breaking Bear has an eight-episode season and airs on the Tubi channel. And maybe the best thing I can say about the show is that it’s free to watch.
Because I’m not sure there’s enough money for me to actually pay to watch this program.
