I am not one to back down from a challenge.
And when my girlfriend Suzanne showed me a new art crafting technique that she thought we would both have fun with – something called “punch needle” – I was intrigued. I mean, I have worked with fiber arts before, between latch hooks and yarn embroidery, so why not try something new?
But if I’m going to do this, I need to practice with something. I can’t just spend $$ on a project, fumble through it, and have it look like a piece of crap afterwards. That’s not me.
And if I’m going to do this, I need to make sure I have all the proper tools and equipment in one fell swoop. I can’t run out to Hobby Lobby or Michael’s for individual thises and thats.
So I went to Hobby Lobby and looked up punch needle kits for beginners. You know, something that I can spend a few dollars on and try my luck with.
And hanging on the racks of punch needle kits … was this guy.

I checked the contents. Looks like it has everything I need – the strings, the cloth, the punch needle device, all of that. Oh, and the instructions. That’s the most important part, don’tcha know.
So here’s the plan. Suzanne and I are going to watch some Thursday night football tonight (in other words, we’re going to watch the Steelers dog-walk the Cleveland Browns), and I’ll start work on this highland cow punch needle project. And if things turn out well … then I’ll progress into a more detailed punch needle project.
Right alongside finishing that Ganef the Squirrel latch hook project.
And getting some photography images ready for Competition Season 2027.
I gotta see where this creativity will take me. Is it a new art project and a new skill? Or is this a “one and done” project, just to say that I could do it and I did it?
Tune in tomorrow and see the results.
Or at least the results from the first hours of working on this.
