Yesterday, I took advantage of a Fandango promotion that gave movie-goers an opportunity to see the new Shazam! movie a week before its official premiere date. So I spent a few dollars and next thing I know, I’m at Colonie Center, and the new Shazam! movie is on the big screen in front of me.…

Oh look, there’s the first sign of spring – a coating of snow on the ground. And lots of high winds. This is a good day to stay inside and do something indoors. And I have the perfect idea. Why not check out these blogs and articles from the bloggers and writers and photographers on…
Read MoreAlbany Patroons lose close one to – you know it – Yakima
So I got the call early yesterday afternoon. “Can you cover the internet broadcast by yourself?” My partner on the broadcast, John Longton, had a prior commitment and was unavailable Friday night. No biggie. You step up and help your teammates. That’s how it works. Of course, that means my first Albany Patroons full broadcast…
Read MoreDamn it, The Orville, you almost got it right
Last year, I gave the sci-fi television series The Orville a lot of crap for an episode that poached, lock stock and barrel, from a 1970’s sci-fi drama called The Starlost. Heck, I almost expected Harlan Ellison – the sci-fi writer who created The Starlost – to sue my own blog out of existence for…
Read MoreThe lost ghost sign on State Street and Erie Boulevard
Last night, before I went to sleep, I took one of my old photographs and tweaked it for more detail and shine and impact. It was a photo of the Nichlaus Building on State Street in Schenectady – the building that, when the neighboring Olender Mattress structure was demolished, revealed a nearly pristine ghost sign…

After that rough road trip where the Pats went 1-5 and slipped down to fourth place in the TBL standings, the Patroons have rebounded with two straight wins over the cellar-dwelling New York Court Kings, who might only get to the playoffs if someone buys them tickets. So yeah, Chuck is happy. A lot of…
Read MoreDo you think I’m stupid, DePaula Chevrolet?
You know the drill by now. As much as I appreciate the staff and repair shop at DePaula Chevrolet, and as much as I appreciate their diligence in taking care of my 2013 Chevrolet Cobalt “Dracourage”, there are moments when I wonder if they actually value me as a human being or if they just…
Read MoreGeorge Winston’s “Linus and Lucy: The Music of Vince Guaraldi” is an Album I Want to Be Buried With
Pianist par excellence George Winston is performing at the Egg tonight. Years ago, I listed Winston’s seminal piano album December as part of my afterlife playlist – the songs and albums I would take with me on my next journey. Today, I want to add a second album to that collection. In 1996, Winston took…
