I’m a little busy right now, gotta make sure that my kid made it all the way from Washington State to New York for a couple of weeks. And while all that’s going on … I still need to find time to take care of the 7 and 7. I don’t want to leave all…

A difference between slide and print Infrared film
During my experiments with color infrared film – both medium format slide and print formulae – I wanted to determine the best outputs for both products. What I’ve discovered is – with the color print Infrared film (“CIR 120”) I’ve acquired, I have more flexibility with my shots. In sunlight, I can use the photographer’s…

I was driving through Greene County yesterday, and out of the corner of my eye, I spotted something. It was a very distinctive artistic spraypainted tag. Someone had makred up a steel girder with an American flag. Not just any American flag, mind you … an upside-down flag. As you know from flag etiquette, an…

It’s 1979, and the National Broadcasting Company – who for many decades was the predominant force in primetime television dramas and comedies – was sputtering. What an accomplishment. Then I received the text. “Dad died. Don’t…

Entering a contest that I’m ineligible to enter …
Nothing like trying to enter my photos in a competition in which I already know I have no chance of succeeding. That has to be the epitome of cojones, right? Let me explain. The United States Government has an image competition every year for their national Federal Duck Stamp. Painters and illustrators around the nation…

There have been recent protests in Albany by the Poor People’s Campaign. These protests, which have disrupted traffic in the downtown Albany area, are designed as a non-violent alert to the systemic problems of racism and police brutality and pay inequality. Noble effort, to be sure. The City of Albany sent the organizers of the…
