I don’t know how many times I drove past this building in Cohoes. But one day I looked up and saw a ghost sign. Yep, another ghost sign for the collection.
Recognize the product that’s painted into the brickface?

Yep… it’s a bar of Ivory Soap. The soap that floats. 99 and 44/100ths percent pure soap.
Just another example that proves we are often ambivalent to our surroundings. And then, one day, when we least expect it… we see something and wonder… how long has it been there and how long have I missed seeing it?
Glad you came clean and told us you missed the sign for so long.
Ivory didn’t always float. It was a mistake of sorts, like a lot of products (locally Super Putty).
Someone at Ivory, went to lunch and left the mixing vat running, thus filling the mix with tiny air bubbles. Not wanting to waste the product, it was packaged and shipped to the stores. When customers contacted Ivory about the “new” floating soap, they ferrated out the reason why it floated. And the rest is history.
What’s the 66/100 impure part?????
