It’s back. Back like clockwork. Back like the sunrise.
The tenth addition of the Capital District’s most prestigious team trivia championship.
That, of course, is Trivia Bowl.
Hosted by Kevin Baker, the host and creator of Trivia Nights Live, the Capital District’s top trivia championship will take place at 1:00 p.m. on February 1, 2014 at Wolf’s 1-11 Arena in downtown Albany. This is essentially a return to the location of Trivia Bowl IV and V (which was held at Broadway Joe’s), on Wolf Road in Colonie (the site of Trivia Bowls VI, VII, VIII and IX) and will feature over two dozen of the Capital District’s top trivia teams.
So how do you get in on this little trivia game?
There are several ways.
You could qualify at one of the local trivia tournaments that are hosted by Trivia Nights Live. Go to the trivianightslive.com website and look for a TNL game in your area. You might also want to consider “liking” the Trivia Nights Live’s Facebook page, because sometimes invitations for Trivia Bowl are handed out to the first person or team that responds to a Facebook post.
There are also “at-large” invitations that are given to legacy trivia teams, teams who have played trivia for many years. Sometimes these are handed out like Golden Tickets to Charlie Bucket; other times it’s more of a “yeah, we want you to be part of this, you’re like family, you’re part of the trivia community, you better dang well show up.”
And of course, without question, there are lifetime invitations – “green jackets” for the Masters, if you will – to teams who have won Trivia Bowl in the past. Those teams include Lynch’s Mob (TB 1, TB 2), Stern Fans (TB 4), Team Load (TB 5), Stop The Bus (TB 7), Team Gretchen (TB 8) and Manti Teo’s Phone Book (TB 9). Oh yeah, and the Street Academy (TB 3, TB 6).
So who gets in? What teams will receive the coveted Golden Tickets?
In a few days, I’ll be posting the list of teams who have received invitations. Of course, once that starts, I expect that some of the teams will start their usual amount of trash-talking and taunting and gamesmanship in the comments section of this blog. Keep it clean and it gets approved. Trust me. I have to clean up some trivia team names or the TU will get upset. So don’t make me slap the
filter on you. ‘Kay?
Why wait till the names get published? This isn’t Catch The Mania, hope you’re not out of practice.
