Today on K-Chuck Radio, I want to bring you some beautiful vocal harmonies, all from “girl groups” of the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s. These were the artists who combined sweetness and beauty with awesome vocals and tender lyrics. And their music is still treasured today.

This is not the “Dawn” of Tony Orlando and Dawn; this Dawn was a 60’s girl group with an amazing Spectropop song that should have been heard by millions, it’s just that good.

Herb Alpert co-produced this record, and this studio group features legendary soul singers Brenda and Patrice Holloway.

Everybody’s Going To The Moon
If you’ve only known of the Three Degrees from their beautiful song “When Will I See You Again,” you have to check out this track. Those ladies could seriously rock out.

Something Happens To Me
Jean King was a member of the Phil Spector background group The Blossoms, and this track is absolutely awesome, if for no other reason than it can’t decide what musical key or tempo it should stay in.
MARTHA AND THE COOKIES
If I Could
This Lesley Gore song was covered in Australia by Martha and the Cookies, and you gotta love the dance moves on this group. Shuffle foot left, shuffle foot right…
THE SUPREMES
When The Lovelight Shines Through His Eyes
Holy crap, Diana Mary and Flo are rocking that Bo Diddley-meets-Funk Brothers beat! Awesomesauce!
THE PEACHES
We Care About What You Hear
This Canadian trio had several hits, and appeared on the Bobby Vinton variety show for a few years. This song was actually a promotional tie-in 45 for Radio Shack’s top-of-the-line turntables and amplifiers. Yes, I said Radio Shack’s “top of the line turntables and amplifiers.”
REPARATA AND THE DELRONS
Whenever A Teenager Cries
Mary “Reparata” Alese and the Delrons had this minor hit in America, but they had a larger hit overseas with “Captain Of Your Ship.” Unfortunately, I couldn’t post a clip of that song, so you’ll just have to enjoy their original track of “Whenever A Teenager Cries” here.
LADY FLASH
Street Singin’
This trio spent most of their time as the background singers for Barry Manilow. This was their only hit, and it name-checks several vintage oldies in its lyrics.

Angel in Your Arms
Back in the day, a song could be a hit by having different artists record it. While this song was a #1 hit for Barbara Mandrell on the country charts, it was also a Top 10 hit for this girl group, Hot.
